GREAT FALLS, Montana –  After the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is put to rest, there’s now a day focused not on buying but on giving. Giving Tuesday is not about buying gifts for your friends or family, but instead it’s about “sharing the love” with those less fortunate. Next Tuesday, December 3, from noon to 5:30 p.m. the Great Falls Animal Shelter is encouraging community members to take part in an adoption and fundraising event. During the event potential adopters have the opportunity to help us empty the shelter and name their own price (minimum of $5) for their adoption fees. This is a great chance to “share the love” with our four-legged friends who are a little less fortunate this holiday season.

Even if you aren’t in the market for a new pet there are still lots of ways to participate in Giving Tuesday. Throughout the day, starting at 10 a.m. there will be a bake sale, a raffle every hour, items for sale and free cocoa. All proceeds raised on Tuesday will go towards the Shelter’s Help Us Grow Project, which is raising funds for a new cattery and other needed facility improvements.

This event is possible because of a Subaru “Share the Love” grant received from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®).   The Shelter will once again join the ASPCA® and Subaru of America for the annual year-end Subaru “Share the Love” event and celebration, which kicked off November 21, 2013 and runs through January 2, 2014. For every new Subaru purchased or leased during the “Share the Love” event, Subaru donates $250 to the owner’s choice of participating charities, one of which is ASPCA.  A majority of the ASPCA’s “Share the Love” donation is targeted for distribution as grants to animal welfare organizations.

Staff from the Great Falls Animal Shelter is ready to help prospective pet owners find the perfect pet this holiday season. The Giving Tuesday event would not be possible without collaboration and support from Bennett Motors and the ASPCA®.
