CELL PHONE ORDINANCE GOES INTO EFFECT THURSDAY

GREAT FALLS, Montana – Next week it’s official. Ordinance 3090, "Use of Electronic Communication Devices While Operating a Motorized Vehicle or a Bicycle" goes into effect on Thursday, August 2. If you haven’t already, make sure to purchase your hands free device before Thursday morning if you plan on talking on the phone while driving.

The new ordinance restricts the use of hand held communication devices within the city limits while operating a motorized vehicle or bicycle and requires drivers use a hands free device if they choose to talk on their phones while driving.

In order to be in violation of Ordinance 3090, the infraction must be witnessed by an officer. The Police Department will not be investigating call in complaints. After August 2, those found in violation of the ordinance may be fined a minimum of $100 up to $500.
