Mansfield Theater

History & Technical Information

The Mansfield Theater has hosted a myriad of events from Broadway shows and movies to symphonic performances and rock concerts. Performers such as Yo-Yo-Ma, Bonnie Rait, Charley Pride, Weird Al Yankovic and Hal Holbrook have graced the stage. Built in the 1930s under the Works Progress Administration Project, the plush Mansfield Theater showcases its historic elegance through intricate architecture and acoustics that are unrivaled in the state. The intimate 1,785-seat venue is adaptable for symphony concerts, ballet, grand opera, road shows, country and rock music spectaculars, musical stage productions, travelogues, conventions and lectures.

The first uses of the theater included performances of both "vaudeville" stage shows and film presentations. After the demise of large-theater movie showings in the early 1970s, the facility was infrequently used, and then only by local symphony and community concert presentations. In the last 15 years the theater has been revitalize both in use and subsequent upgrading of original equipment.
