FOUR PROMOTED TO ROLE OF CAPTAIN

Great Falls, Montana - Great Falls Fire Rescue (GFFR) has promoted Mike Kuntz, Brandon Jaraczeski, Dave Bleskin and Adam Marsh to the position of Fire Captain. There will be a formal pinning ceremony on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Fire Station-1 (105 9th Street S) to recognize their achievement.  Families and friends will have an opportunity to put the Captain’s bugles on the collars of these new officers.  The public is encouraged to attend and be part of this ceremonious and important occasion.

Captains are frontline supervisors or company officers who shoulder the responsibility of one of the four fire stations, the apparatus and crew.  The job entails being responsible for routine equipment and apparatus maintenance as well as managing critical emergency incidents. The department has 64 uniformed firefighter positions, and 17 Captains.

Before receiving their promotion, the four new Captains were put through a rigorous two day assessment process with 19 of their peers and were selected by a panel of Senior Officers. Those selected were identified as the best and most prepared members for the job.

It takes years for a firefighter to prepare to become a Fire Captain, and as Chief McCamley explains, “The role of Captain is critical to our success as an organization and I am extremely proud of these young men. It takes hard work, dedication and demonstrated leadership skills to become a Captain.  I congratulate each of them on their achievement.”

For more information about the promotions and the formal pinning ceremony please contact Steve Hester, Assistant Fire Chief at 727-8072.
