Great Falls Symphony: Voices of a New Generation

Meeting: Great Falls Symphony: Voices of a New Generation
Date/Time: Sat, Feb 8th, 2014 7:30pm
Location: Mansfield Theater

The February 8 concert demonstrates how outreach culminates in a powerful performance. The CM Russell High Chanteur and Great Falls High Dephian Choirs join the Great Falls Symphonic Choir (200 voices!) and Orchestra to perform Vivaldi’s Magnificat. It was written for the abandoned children of his orphanage, many blind and crippled. It is a work of dramatic and lyrical intensity. The orchestra will perform Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony. Gordon Johnson reflects on the piece: “He wrote more than 600 works in his too-brief life. The Jupiter was his last symphony, written at the culmination of his career. It makes one listen and think–this piece is so great, what if he had had ten or fifteen more years to write?”
