    Bill and Joan-Nell Macfadden have been named winners of the sixth annual Paris Gibson Award.  The Award, established by the Paris Gibson Month Celebration Committee, is given to honor a citizen or citizens of Great Falls who embody the vision and excellence exemplified by the founder of Great Falls, Paris Gibson.  This is the second time a couple has won the Award.

    The water restriction for those residents and businesses located  west and north Missouri River has now ended. The contractor was able to complete Phase 1  on Sunday, which connected the new main to the existing water main at Oddfellows Park and Broadwater Bay. After connecting, the water reservoir was allowed to fill and as of this morning the water reservoir was at 8.75 feet. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation during the water restriction.

    Many families enjoy the 4th of July holiday with firework displays at their own home. While they may be exciting and fun, they can also be dangerous, causing serious burns and injuries. Great Falls Fire Rescue wants to remind those setting off fireworks over the holiday to take the necessary steps and precautions to keep themselves and others safe.  Always be aware of the risks of accidents, personal injury and fires associated with the use of fireworks. Great Falls Fire Rescue has provided residents with safety tips to follow this 4th of July season.

    Residents and businesses located west and north of the Missouri River are asked to continue to not irrigate their yards through the weekend - Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, in an attempt to improve water levels due to a water main replacement project. The contractor ran into unexpected complications on Thursday and crews will be working over the weekend to complete Phase 1 of the project.

    The Spray Park in Dudley Anderson Park (adjacent to the Water Tower Pool) will open Friday, June 12.  Due to water restrictions on the west side, the Spray Park in Jaycee Park will not open until Monday, June 15.  The Spray Park hours at both parks will be 1:00-5:00 p.m. daily.  The Spray Parks are free through Friday, June 26.

    Tickets for the Fifth Annual Waking the Dead tours at Highland Cemetery, 2010 33rd Ave. So. in Great Falls are on sale now.  The tours sponsored by the Paris Gibson Month Celebration Committee, will be held Sunday, June 28, 1:00-2:30 p.m. and 3:00-4:30 p.m. Tickets to ride are $15 and to walk are $10.  They are available at the Great Falls Public Library and Great Falls Park and Recreation Department.

Water levels have dropped to a critical level due to a major water main replacement project located between Oddfellows Park and Broadwater Bay Boat Ramp, which have been impacted by rain and extreme temperatures.

    The 4th of July holiday is just around the corner. The City wants to remind residents about the local rules and regulations pertaining to the selling and discharging of fireworks. The selling and discharging of fireworks within the incorporated limits of Great Falls can only take place on July 2, July 3 and July 4 from 8 am to midnight. As a reminder, stick rockets, bottle rockets and roman candles are not allowed in Montana (per State Law).

    Summer is officially here! The Electric City Water Park (ECWP) opens for the season Friday, June 12. ECWP will be open daily June 12 - August 25, from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. On Wednesdays, the Water Park will remain open until 8:00 p.m. ECWP includes the Mitchell Pool, the wading pool and interactive play structure (Little Squirts Soak Zone); the Power Tower Plunge (two great water slides); and the Flow Rider where participants can boogie board, ride the lazy river and head down the riptide slide.

    In preparation for the upcoming fire season, Great Falls Fire Rescue and Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department would like to invite residents of the Valley View area to an informational meeting at Fire Station Two (731 6th St. NW) on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m. to learn about the fire dangers associated with living in the wildland-urban interface. Homeowners will learn how to better protect their property from grass/brush fires that typically occur in the area.

    The Shelter is celebrating the Cat Days of Summer, with hot deals and cool cats! In recognition of National Adopt a Cat Month, all Shelter cats (6 months and older) can be adopted for $25 during the month of June. Cats that are adopted will leave the Shelter spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), microchipped and with a nametag. Existing pet owners, who are interested in adopting, are asked to bring proof of rabies vaccinations for their current pets. City residents will also be asked to license their new pet for a nominal fee ($15).

    Residents located west and north of the Missouri River (homes located in Neighborhood Council Districts 1, 2, 3, & Black Eagle) are being asked to continue to limit water usage, specifically in regards to watering and irrigating their yards. Those with addresses ending with an odd number are being asked to water their lawns on odd calendar days and those ending with an even number are being asked to water on even calendar days.  The water restriction is in place through Friday, June 12 and is due to a water main replacement project.

The top 12 winning entries (those with the most votes) will be prominently featured in a colorful, full-sized 2016 Shelter Calendar.     The City  received a grant to install an 8-foot concrete bike and pedestrian path through Charles Russell Park (33rd St S and Mountain View Area), near Grandview and the Great Falls Clinic. This project will provide better pedestrian and bicycle connections between City neighborhoods and key destinations throughout the community. The project is funded through the Montana Department of Transportation’s Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP), and matched by Benefis Health System.

    During the month of June, newspaper and cardboard recycled at Pacific Steel & Recycling (1624 12th Ave N) can be credited to the Great Falls Animal Shelter. To participate, just drop off recyclables in the large green bin located outside the warehouse. Pacific Steel & Recycling also accepts a number of other materials for recycling. If you’d like to have the value of your recyclables be credited to the Great Falls Animals Shelter, just notify the staff at Pacific Steel & Recycling.

    On Friday, June 5, 2015, as part of the Missing in America Project, a large procession of motorcycles and emergency vehicles will provide an escort for six unclaimed Military Veterans' Remains through Great Falls, with the final destination being Fort Harrison in Helena, Montana. The procession is expected to start between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m., following a ceremony which begins at 12:30 p.m. at Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory (1307 Central Avenue).

    Starting on Monday, June 8, the Mansfield Box Office will begin their Summer Hours of Operation. Summer Hours will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.  You can purchase tickets in person or over the phone at 406-455-8514 during these hours. Tickets may also be purchased online, 24-hours a day, seven days a week at http://ticketing.greatfallsmt.net.
