    The City of Great Falls has a contract with TMI Coatings, Inc, to install structural improvements meeting current OSHA standards, sandblast the interior and exterior of the water tower, and to apply a new coating system over the interior and exterior of the tower. It is anticipated that the water tower will be out of service between August 8 and October 24, 2014.

When a citizen calls 771-1180 they will be greeted with an automated message with menu options helping direct them to the appropriate individual, service or department. However, callers can bypass the automated system at anytime, by direct dialing a department or individual.

    Friday, August 1, is the Universal Birthday for Rescued Dogs and the Great Falls Animal Shelter is celebrating by having a Birthday Party for shelter dogs – and is including the cats in the fun too! There will be birthday cupcakes for the dogs provided by Lewis ‘N Bark Montana and cheesy treats for the cats provided by the Shelter Sidekicks. The public is invited to the Birthday Party for shelter pets starting at 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. There will be human treats (cake and punch), games, fun and even a piñata!

    Nine Little Free Libraries have found homes in Great Falls parks. Little Free Libraries are “take a book, return a book” gathering places where neighbors share books and stories. At its most basic, a little free library is a structure, or a box, that holds books, and is placed in a public area where community members can borrow a book and replace it with another. This program has gained much popularity nationwide.

    The City is asking residents located west and north of the river (homes located in Neighborhood Council Districts 1, 2 & 3) to limit their water usage, specifically in regards to watering and irrigating their yards. The watering restriction is in effect until Saturday morning. Primary neighborhoods in the area include Fox Farm, Valley View, Riverview, Skyline Height, Eagle’s Crossing, West Great Falls, Sun River Park area, Garden Home Tracts area, West Hill and Marketplace. Residents can return to their normal watering schedule on Saturday afternoon.

    The City experienced a major water main break Monday afternoon behind the La Quinta Inn. This main feeds the areas west and north of the Missouri River. During the period of time the main is out of service, the City will not be able to provide enough water to residents west and north of the river if irrigation continues.

    The City is asking residents west and north of the river to refrain from unnecessary water usage, such as watering and irrigating yards starting this evening (Wednesday) at 11 p.m., all day Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday morning. Residents can return to their normal watering schedule on Saturday afternoon.

    During the scheduled power outage on the afternoon of Thursday, July 10, outlying City facilities will remain open, but will not have access to City servers, which means those departments will not be able to receive and send emails or have the ability to take credit card payments.

    The golf courses, water park, parking garages, Passport Parking and the Animal Shelter will only be able to take cash during the  power outage or until the servers and internet are back online.

    The City would like to remind residents, that on Thursday, July 10, Northwestern Energy will be installing a new power pole and replacing the underground power lines to the area immediately adjacent to the Great Falls Civic Center. The installation requires that power be shut off to the impacted buildings. Due to the scheduled power outage, the Civic Center will be closed starting at 12 p.m. Without power employees at the Civic Center are unable to effectively perform the functions of their jobs and serve the public.
