    Sign up now for swimming lessons offered by the City of Great Falls Park and Recreation.  Classes are for ages 6 months & older, from beginners to advanced, and are taught by YMCA/ American Red Cross certified lifeguards.  Sessions run Monday-Thursday for two weeks or Saturdays for six weeks. Class sizes are limited so register now!  Also check out the additional Open Swim times for school holidays.

    This week the City hired Lynn Formell as the new Animal Shelter Operations Manager. Lynn was hired as the Shelter’s Veterinarian Technician in January of 2012 and has been the Interim Manager since May.  She has a demonstrated passion for the care, well-being and adoption of Shelter animals. Lynn has been employed as a Veterinarian Technician in three states and has more than 20 years of experience working with animals. She has over 10 years of leadership and management experience through her career in the Air Force.

    The Great Falls Public Library celebrates Banned Books Week (September 22 – 28) with a unique sculpture; the eight-foot tall mixed media sculpture, complete with torn and burned pages, is composed of 29 banned and challenged books.  Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and draws national attention to the harms of censorship. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted with removal or restrictions in libraries and schools.
