    The Great Falls Fire Fighters will be making their Care Enough to Wear Pink check presentation to Women Against Breast Cancer and the Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute at 11:30 a.m. on  Friday, December  11, at Fire Station #1 (105 9th Street South). This year local fire fighters raised $8,000 by selling Care Enough to Wear Pink t-shirts to support cancer awareness and education.

    The Park and Recreation Department is holding a special open swim day on Friday, December 11th from 5-9 pm at the Morony Natatorium swimming pool featuring our newest swim feature the WIBIT. The WIBIT consists of 6 climb on water components that offers lots of fun and challenge for all ages. There are two swim times based on age; ages 6-10 open swim from 5-7 pm and ages 11-17 open swim from 7-9 pm. Cost is $5 per person.

    The Great Falls Animal Shelter is looking for a few special someone's to be Secret Santa’s for the dogs and cats at the Shelter this holiday season.  Caring Paws for the Cause giving trees have been placed at Petcetra (1525 10th Avenue South) and at Everyday IGA North (2505 6th Avenue North) with the Shelter’s “Wish List” for the holiday season.  The Caring Paws for the Cause trees will be up through the week of New Year’s Day.

This past summer the Shelter held a photo contest looking for the cutest pets around and the top 12 winning entries are featured in the calendar.     City offices including the Great Falls Public Library, Community Recreation Center and the Great Falls Animal Shelter will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Shelter will also be closed on Saturday (11/28). There will be no sanitation collection on Thursday (11/26) and sanitation collection will be one day later than the regular schedule for customers on Thursday and Friday.

    City of Great Falls offices, including the Animal Shelter and Public Library, will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.  There will be no changes to the residential or commercial sanitation collection schedule next week. Both the Community Recreation Center and Natatorium will be open during their regular business hours on Wednesday.     The Great Falls Animal Shelter is celebrating fall the first week of November!Monday, November 2, through Friday, November 6 cats  (6 months and older) can be adopted for $10 plus a donation of your choice! Cats will leave the shelter spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), microchipped and with a nametag. Existing pet owners, who are interested in adopting, are asked to bring proof of rabies vaccinations for their current pets. City residents will be asked to license their new pet for a nominal fee ($15).

    Eagle Falls and Anaconda Hills Golf Courses have closed for the season.  will close for the season this week. Anaconda Hills will open for Winter Golf, November 16 – December 31; followed by Eagle Falls January 4 – February 15; contingent on weather conditions.  Hours will be 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and be locked at 3:30 p.m.  All golfers must be off the course before 3:30 p.m.

    On Monday, October 26, Ron Scott was appointed as the new Assistant Fire Chief for Great Falls Fire Rescue.  Ron has had a long career with GFFR. He started as a firefighter in 1987 and was promoted to Captain in 2000.  Over the past 28 years, Ron has been a valuable member of the team and contributed to the success of the department. His Promotion Ceremony will be Friday, October 30, at 4 p.m., at Fire Station 1 (105 9th Street South).
