    The Great Falls Animal Shelter is celebrating fall the first week of November!Monday, November 2, through Friday, November 6 cats  (6 months and older) can be adopted for $10 plus a donation of your choice! Cats will leave the shelter spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), microchipped and with a nametag. Existing pet owners, who are interested in adopting, are asked to bring proof of rabies vaccinations for their current pets. City residents will be asked to license their new pet for a nominal fee ($15).

    Eagle Falls and Anaconda Hills Golf Courses have closed for the season.  will close for the season this week. Anaconda Hills will open for Winter Golf, November 16 – December 31; followed by Eagle Falls January 4 – February 15; contingent on weather conditions.  Hours will be 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and be locked at 3:30 p.m.  All golfers must be off the course before 3:30 p.m.

    Halloween is just around the corner, and there will be more children out after dark than normal this weekend.  Great Falls Fire Rescue, the Great Falls Police Department and Great Falls Public Schools are reminding all of us to help keep our children safe this Halloween.     On Monday, October 26, Ron Scott was appointed as the new Assistant Fire Chief for Great Falls Fire Rescue.  Ron has had a long career with GFFR. He started as a firefighter in 1987 and was promoted to Captain in 2000.  Over the past 28 years, Ron has been a valuable member of the team and contributed to the success of the department. His Promotion Ceremony will be Friday, October 30, at 4 p.m., at Fire Station 1 (105 9th Street South).

    The City Commission of the City of Great Falls met and conducted a public hearing during the regular session on Tuesday October 20, 2015 at the Civic Center, Great Falls Montana at 7:00 p.m.  The Commission established the attached rates for sanitation by passing Resolution 10120.  The new Rates will be effective October 27, 2015.

    It's the time of year to rake leaves.

    The City's Leaf Pickup Program begins Monday, October 26, and runs through through Monday, November 16. Residents within the Boulevard District area are being requested to deposit leaves on the boulevard next to the curb and not in the street gutter. For those residing within the Boulevard District, the Natural Resources Division will vacuum leaves from the boulevards. The City's Street Division will be sweeping streets in conjunction with the leaf pick-up.

    Montana State Parks announced today that Black Eagle Memorial Island, the access road to the island and the pedestrian trail from N. River Road toward Black Eagle Memorial Island will be closed to ALL PUBLIC ACCESS from October 26th to November 13th due to construction. The area will be reopened on November 14th, 2015.

    Great Falls Fire and Rescue, the local American Red Cross and United Way of Cascade County are partnering to install free smoke alarms in as many as 250 Great Falls homes. Volunteers will install the smoke alarms on Friday, Oct. 23, as part of United Way’s annual Day of Caring. If you would like a new smoke alarm installed in your home, please call 1-800-272-6668 by Oct. 17.

The Great Falls Animal Shelter is hosting the 4th Annual Fall Fantasy Dog Show on Saturday, October 17, from 12 – 4 p.m. at F & L Pet Resort (2500 17th St. N.E., Black Eagle). Check-in for all dogs is noon, with the first competition starting promptly at 1 p.m. The cost to participate for the day is $10 per dog. The Fall Fantasy Dog Show features ten competitions that highlight your dog’s amazing talents and skills.
