Mayor Receives Dorothy Richardson Award.

Mayor with her Award

(City Manager's Report - 3/6/2007)

I would like to report that NeighborWorks American's Rocky Mountain District has selected Mayor Dona Stebbins to receive the 2007 Dorothy Richardson Award. She was nominated for the award by Neighborhood housing Services of Great Falls.

The letter of announcement written to Sheila Rice, Executive Director of NHS, said "The Rocky Mountain District received a number of Dorothy Richardson Award nominations and while we were impressed with all of them, Dona' nomination rose to the top."

The Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership is an honor bestowed annually in recognition of outstanding contributions by dedicated community leaders. Eight of the prestigious awards are given out, one to an honoree from each of the national NeighborWorks districts. Dona is the honoree for the Denver district.

The awards are named in honor of Dorothy Richardson of Pittsburgh, a pioneer in the community-based development movement who was the driving force behind the establishment of the first Neighborhood Housing Services resident-led partnership, the forerunner of today's NeighborWorks® network. Richardson and a small group of her neighbors in the 1960s banded together in a fight to save their dying neighborhood in Pittsburgh's Central NOrth Side. they recruited partners in local government and the business community.

As the sponsoring organization, Neighborhood Housing Services inc, of Great Falls will receive an expendable grant of $5,000 and a plaque for exemplary work in resident leadership development.

Dona will be honored in Washington, D.C. at a reception on Capital Hill, on Tuesday, March 20, 2007.

Congratulations, Mayor Stebbins.
