Laying electrical cables

Pouring the foundation
The Vinegar Jones Cabin has a long and varied history. This oldest building in town survived fires and demolition permits, and eventually landed in the sad state of the picture above: the roof caving; the exterior showing signs of later additions that didn’t last as long as the original structure; and the interior filled with debris.
Thankfully, this tangible piece of our history was spared from oblivion. The Cabin was "mothballed" and moved the new home prepared for it in Gibson Park.
Preparation of the Cabin's new home included laying a foundation and burying power cables to illuminate the Cabin in the future.

The move to Gibson Park
In December 2002, the foundation and utility work were ready, and volunteers loaded the Cabin on a truck and moved it to its new permanent home.
With the Cabin on its new permanent foundation, the restoration of the historical building began. To date, the roof has been repaired; the spaces between logs/boards have been daubed; and a concrete sub floor was poured in early September 2003.
The Vinegar Jones Cabin still needs a lot of work. With your help, the Vinegar Jones Cabin will offer generations of Great Falls residents and visitors a glimpse into life in early Great Falls.
