
The Community Development Department serves the citizens of Great Falls by facilitating, promoting and ensuring quality development making our community a better place to live, work and play. Staff members work with the City Commission, City Manager, other city departments, citizens, and private sector entities, such as the Chamber of Commerce, Great Falls Development Authority, and the Business Improvement District, to fulfill the department's mission.

Articulate and promote the vision of Great Falls through education and enforcement of the standards set by the Community. By understanding where we have been, we establish the framework for the future.

Organization
The department is charged with carrying out many functions, which fall into two general areas: Community Services and Code Enforcement.
Community Services provided by this department include:
- Community Development Block Grant/HOME Program -- The department administers the allocation of federal funds for the purpose of creating viable communities. Projects benefit low/moderate income citizens or remove slum and blight.
- Neighborhood Councils, services to
- Fair Housing
- Housing Rehabilitation Services
- Civic Center Facilities Maintenance -- Three full service custodians maintain and care for this 50+ year old community treasure. They are aided by a janitorial contract (currently with B&B Cleaning).
- Developer Assistance
Building Safety Division functions provided by the department are:
- Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical
- Abatement of Dangerous Buildings/Property Maintenance
- Code Enforcement/Private Property Complaints
- Sign Code
