Meter Hoods
Meter hoods are rented at a cost of $2.00 per day to qualifying individuals and organizations. Contact the Parking Garage office (454-2278) for information.
Businesses, organizations or individuals actively engaged in construction of any type or other activity necessitating the reservation of parking spaces may rent meter hoods. The City's policy is to designate these daily use zones for the following applicants only:
- The business or property owner immediately adjacent to the proposed zone;
- A construction contractor, mover, etc. for an activity on the same block as the proposed zone. The designated zone shall be as close as practicable to the work site. Only vehicles and equipment necessary to the activity can be parked in the daily use zone. Property/business owner's private vehicles are not authorized to park at a hooded meter.
Parking Tokens
Meter Tokens – Visitors to the downtown area may purchase meter tokens at the North Ramp (corner of 1st Avenue North & 4th Street North) office. The cost for the meter tokens is $5.00 per bag (100 tokens). The coins are good in all downtown area parking meters and each token will register twelve (12) minutes on a meter. Many downtown stores and shops purchase meter tokens and have them available for use by shoppers.
Lot & Garage Tokens – These coins/tokens are also available for purchase at the North Ramp office. The cost for the lot & garage tokens is $20.00 per bag (100 coins) and each token is good for one (1) hour of parking in any City owned off-street facility (2 parking garages and 6 parking lots). Many downtown merchants and store owners have these coins available for shoppers.
Courtesy Parking Program
This parking program allows fifteen (15) minutes of free parking for downtown visitors and shoppers and is only available to downtown businesses. For a monthly fee, a business is allowed to have the meter removed and a "Courtesy Parking" sign installed. The "courtesy" stalls are intended exclusively for shoppers, downtown business owners and/or employees can not use the spaces. Exceeding the fifteen-minute time limit is a common violation and will result in the vehicle operator being cited for a sign violation.
