About the EPO

Established in 2007, the Great Falls Emergency Preparedness Office plans and prepares for emergencies, educates the public about emergency preparedness, coordinates response and recovery, and distributes emergency information within the City of Great Falls, Montana. The office works alongside both local public and private organizations and state public and private organizations to prepare for the safety of the citizens in the City of Great Falls.

EPO Mission

Our mission is to save lives, reduce property damage, and protect the environment through the coordination of comprehensive emergency management plans and planning functions.

Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

During Citywide emergencies, the City Manager will activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC is located at the Great Falls Police Department. The City Manager’s Office will request that representatives from certain City agencies work in the EOC until the emergency is resolved.

Emergency Information

If you are involved in or witness an emergency:

  • Make sure 911 has been contacted
  • Do NOT put yourself or others in danger
  • Follow the advice of the emergency services personnel
  • Try to remain calm and think before acting
  • Check for injuries, and remember to attend to yourself before attempting to help others

If you are not involved in the incident, but are close by or believe you may be in danger:

  • Go inside a safe building
  • Stay inside until you are advised to do otherwise
  • Tune in to local radio or TV and check the internet for information
