Captain Jeff Newton has over 19 years of combined law enforcement experience. Beginning in 1993, he worked for the Kalispell Police Department, and in 1997 he went to work for the King County Sheriff’s Office in Seattle.
Since joining the GFPD in 1999, Captain Newton has held many positions, such as: Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Police Motorcycle Instructor, Narcotics & Gangs Investigator, Downtown Officer, Special Projects Officer, Grant Writer, Public Information Officer, Community Policing Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, and most recently, Patrol Lieutenant.
Captain Newton holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Montana State University and a Masters Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Great Falls. Captain Newton also recently graduated from the FBI Intermountain Command College. He has served on the Cascade County DUI Task Force, as well as on the board of directors for both the Boys and Girls Club and Alliance for Youth.
Captain Newton oversees the largest bureau in the department, concerning both manpower and budget. He recognizes that the level of customer service we currently provide is exceptional, and he is committed to finding innovative ways to build upon that foundation using available resources both inside and outside our department.
