The bike patrol unit is comprised of officers who voluntarily want to participate and would like to perform their patrol duties on a mountain bike. The department has four bikes that are used. Officers who wish to be part of the unit must successfully complete a bike patrol course taught by department bike patrol instructors.
Bike patrol is used primarily in the larger city parks, the Downtown Business District, and the Rivers Edge Trail, but can be used in other areas as needed. Bike patrol allows officers to have more direct community interaction with citizens, provide safe riding education, and enforce criminal and traffic laws.
