In September 2011, the Montana Association of Planners awarded its Professional Achievement Award to the City of Great Falls Downtown Master Plan Citizen Participants and Steering Committee, the City of Great Falls Staff and Brant Birkeland, Project Manager.
The Awards Committee noted that the Downtown Master Plan was a stand-out “from top to bottom” and commended the extensive citizen participation, strong media coverage and staff commitment in formulation of the Plan. Plan graphics were recognized for “translating ideas in the text into an imaginable reality.” In accepting the award, Project Manager, Brant Birkeland, commended participants and staff on their exemplary efforts.
According to Mike Haynes, AICP, Director of Planning and Community Development, “This award recognizes the time commitment, hard work and vision the participants in the process demonstrated throughout the process. They helped create a truly unique and innovative plan for Downtown Great Falls.”
