The Montana Senior Olympics Committee is proud to announce that Great Falls will be the site for Montana Senior Olympics again in 2012. Great Falls was selected as the host site for the 2011 and 2012 Montana Senior Olympics.
Mark the date and plan now to participate. Not a senior? You may still be eligible! The games are open to individuals 50 years of age and over. Sports include Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, Field and Track, Golf, Horseshoes, Racewalk, Racquetball, Road Race, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Tennis, and include several events within each sport.
The 2012 games in Great Falls are a qualifier for the National Senior Games to be held in Cleveland Ohio, July 21 – August 5, 2013. More information on the National Games can be found at: www.nsga.com.
One of the highlights of the Montana State Senior Olympics will be the Alive@Five event, Thursday, June 7, 5:00-9:00 p.m. in Whittier Park. This will be a large community-wide event, and the evening will include live music by the 49th Street Blues Project, food, drink, games, and a festive atmosphere to kick off the games. A large area will be set up for athletes and their guests, with tables and chairs, providing the opportunity to socialize with fellow participants. All athletes will be provided with $10 in tokens to buy food and drink, courtesy of the Great Falls Montana Senior Olympics Committee and Benefis Health System. The event is FREE! Those that attended the event last year had a fantastic time and what a great way to start your weekend and the Montana Senior Olympics!
The 5k road race will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on River Drive near the Civic Center; providing an opportunity for those athletes to participate in the games and the party.
The Awards Banquet will be Friday, June 8th at the Holiday Inn and will include live music by Nicole VanCleave, great food, fun activities, and presentation of the Athlete of the Year Award. It’s also a great time to mingle with athletes, sponsors and commissioners.
The early registration deadline is May 21. The registration fee is $10 plus any applicable event and facility fees. Late registration will be accepted until May 25; the registration fee increases to $20. The games are open to ages 50 and older with no residency requirement. Registration booklets are available at the Park and Recreation Office, 1700 River Drive No., the Community Recreation Center, 801 2nd Ave. No., or by calling Kay Newman at 406-586-5543.
