TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE
Great Falls, Montana – Downtown property owners, business owners or developers seeking to rehabilitate historic downtown properties are invited to submit an application for the second phase of the Technical Assistance Grant Program. It is anticipated that the program will provide funding for two feasibility studies. Applications are due May 10, 2012 to the Planning & Community Development Office (2 Park Drive South, Room 112).
The Technical Assistance Program evolved as a strategy in the Downtown Master Plan process, as an effort to preserve, restore and re-use Downtown’s historic buildings and sites. The purpose of the program is to provide property owners and developers with the resources needed to make an informed decision regarding the feasibility of the rehabilitation or adaptive re-use of existing historic buildings. The program is intended to stimulate quality development downtown and introduce a range of financial incentives and strategies to promote downtown revitalization.
The initial Technical Assistance Grant Program provided feasibility studies for three properties, including the Rocky Mountain, Baum-Trinastitch and Arvon Buildings. All three properties are now in various stages of development.
Eligible properties must be located within the Downtown Master Plan area and be a contributing building within a historic district, listed individually in the National Register of Historic Places or be eligible for listing. Applicants are asked to contribute 20% of the cost of the feasibility study and the application requires a “down payment” of $500. Complete eligibility guidelines and applications are available in the Planning & Community Development office (2 Park Drive South, room 112) and the Business Improvement District office (13 5th Street North).
