GROWTH POLICY ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP TO MEET THURSDAY
GREAT FALLS, Montana – The City of Great Falls is currently updating its Growth Policy and citizen input and involvement is a critical component of the process. Residents have been encouraged to participate in the four working groups that are looking at key elements of the plan. The Environmental Working Group will begin meeting this week on Thursday, September 27 as well as Thursday, October 4 and Thursday, October 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Planning and Community Development Conference Room located in the Civic Center (2 Park Drive South – Office 112). The meetings are open to the public.
For those who are interested in getting involved in the Growth Policy Update process, the working groups are the perfect place to provide input and share ideas about the future of Great Falls. The Social Working Group met in August and September and discussed topics such as population, housing and local government and non-profit services. The Environmental Working Group will focus on issues related to natural resources, open spaces, storm water, conservation and environmental health. Future working groups that will meet over the next few months include the Economic Working Group and the Physical Working Group.
The City’s Growth Policy is an official document, formally adopted by the City Commission that helps plan for the community’s future. It recommends a set of goals and strategies intended to manage development and promote the best possible future for Great Falls. It looks beyond current issues and looks to potential problems and opportunities. The document, when adopted, will embody the community’s vision for the next ten years and beyond.
