OPEN HOUSE AT PARKDALE
Great Falls, Montana – The Great Falls Housing Authority is hosting an open house on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Parkdale Site (1613 Chowen Spring Loop). The open house will showcase phase one of the Parkdale Project, which includes the renovation of 14 units. The public and members of the media are invited to the open house and light refreshments will be served.
Parkdale was the first Public Housing Development in Great Falls, construction began on the first 156 units in 1939. Over seventy years later, it’s finally time for a makeover. Phase one of the Parkdale Project included a complete interior renovation of the 14 units. Each unit was demoed down to the studs and rebuilt. Improvements and renovations included new kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, heating systems, plumbing, electrical, roofing, siding, windows, doors, etc.
The cost of phase one, was $1,877,000, which included the renovation of the 14 units as well as infrastructure improvements to water and sewer mains, gas and electrical services, and site sidewalks, curb and roadways. The project was funded with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Capital Funds.
According to Kevin Hager, Housing Authority Executive Director, “The renovation of these first units originally built in 1939 is the first step in renovating the City of Great Falls’ first Public Housing Complex. These units should be a very viable housing asset to the community for another 60 or 70 years.”
The Great Falls Housing Authority owns and operates five public housing complexes, a Section Eight housing program and 32 units of Affordable Housing in Great Falls, Montana. The public housing and the Section Eight programs provide rental assistance to income eligible individuals.
