Banned Challenged Censored Reception Cancelled
Great Falls, Montana – The Great Falls Public Library is cancelling a scheduled opening reception for a unique sculpture commemorating Banned Books Week. The reception was scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2:00 pm.
However, this eight-foot tall mixed media sculpture will be on display at the library through October 16th, including during Banned Books Week (September 22 – 28). The piece, complete with torn and burned pages, is composed of 29 banned and challenged books. It t was created by sculptor Collin Letts and abstract artist and writer George Cole, both of Bozeman.
The piece has been on display at various libraries around the state since the spring. It has been widely applauded and stimulated much thought and discussion on the harms of censorship.
