POWER RESTORED TO SOUTHWEST SIDE OF GREAT FALLS
GREAT FALLS, Montana – As of 12 p.m. this afternoon, power was restored to the southwest area of Great Falls. Starting at approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning the southwest area of the City began experiencing sporadic power outages. The outage was caused by extreme cold temperatures; the National Weather Service in Great Falls reported temperatures of -34 degrees this morning. Recognizing the severity of the issue, Northwestern Energy worked to bring power back on soon as possible.
City and County officials activated the Emergency Operations Center early this morning to evaluate the issue and to develop a plan of action for the residents of Great Falls and Cascade County. A temporary mass care warming facility, manned by the Red Cross, was set-up during the outage at the Pacific Steel & Recycling Four Seasons Arena for those without power and needing assistance.
In the event of future power outages residents are encouraged to have an emergency plan in place. To learn more about the power outage or for important winter safety tips visit the City's website at www.greatfallsmt.net or the Center for Disease Control at http://emergency.cdc.gov/disasters/winter/.
