DAVE BOWEN NAMED THE NEXT POLICE CHIEF
GREAT FALLS, Montana – Today, City Manager Greg Doyon announced the appointment of Dave Bowen as the next Great Falls Police Chief. Bowen has been with the Great Falls Police Department since 1991 serving over 20 years in various roles from patrolman to Captain. He is a third generation Montanan and a second generation law enforcement officer.
Since September 2010 he has been serving as Captain of the Investigative Services Bureau. Prior to that, he served as Captain of the Patrol Services Bureau, Support Services Lieutenant and as Sergeant in Support Services and Patrol Services.
Bowen has completed the required Police Officer Standard and Training Certificates and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He holds an Associates of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Great Falls. Bowen is also currently working on his Master of Science in Organizational Management from the University of Great Falls.
The City had a very competitive slate of internal candidates for the Chief position. Throughout the selection process City Manager Doyon reached out to community groups, the City Commission, neighborhood councils, police commission members and the Great Falls Police Protective Association seeking their input and feedback regarding the Chief position. A community panel interviewed all the candidates, and the top candidates were interviewed by the City Manager and Deputy City Manager.
As stated by City Manager Doyon, “As Chief, Dave will continue to serve the department and the community he loves as the City’s top law enforcement officer. His steady, experienced hand, will lead with integrity, commitment and thoughtful humility.”
