| City Commission Work Session | Mayor Joan Bennett presiding |
CALL TO ORDER: 5:45 P.M.
PRESENT: Mayor Bennett, Commissioners Beecher, Downer, Gray, and Rosenbaum. Also present were City Manager, Directors of Community Development, Park & Recreation, Fiscal Control, Management Information Services, Library, Fire Chief, Police Chief, and City Clerk.
Tammy Evans, owner of the property located at 512 26th Avenue NE, requested a variance to OCCGF 17.45.030. The variance would reduce the required 6' side yard setback to 2'. Ms. Evans wanted to build an attached garage.
The Board heard the request on Thursday, August 27, 1998. Staff reviewed the request noting that several side yard variances existed in the neighborhood. Also noted was the fact that there was no alley access to the lot that a large mature tree prohibited moving the proposed garage deeper into the lot. No phone calls were received regarding the proposed variance. The Board entered into a discussion and voted unanimously to recommend approval of the variance.
It was the consensus of the City Commission to concur with the Board of Adjustment's recommendation.
Jim Heckel, Library Director, reported to the City Commission regarding of the status of the Library Foundation. He stated that total in assets for the foundation were $1,504,794. He stated that most of the proceeds came from the Thomson estate. However, the Library Foundation members have several fundraisers.
There was no discussion or questions for Mr. Heckel following his report.
Peggy Bourne, City Clerk, overviewed several ideas regarding upgrading the Commission Chambers. The goals for the project included: removing the "we/them" feel to the room; making the room aesthetically pleasing; incorporating technology into the infrastructure; and improving the quality of the audio systems.
After a brief discussion, the Commission concurred to allow Staff to finalize the plans and begin the upgrade.
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the regular work session on September 15, 1998, adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
