GREAT FALLS, Montana – The City of Great Falls Park and Recreation Department recently received a generous donation in the amount of $30,681 from the Haffner-Lynn family to rebuild the Haffner Trail in Russell Park. The mile long Haffner Trail was originally funded and built in 2001 with a donation from Janet Haffner in memory of her late husband R.K. “Bob” Haffner.

According to Marty Basta, Park and Recreation Director, “It is citizens and donors in our community like Janet, who help make our parks what they are, not only a destination for those who live here but also those who visit our community.” Her donation and ongoing support of our City parks is greatly appreciated.  Marty explains the importance of her donation further, “Janet’s original donation benefited all those who enjoyed the park and the trail in the past and the donation we received this month will ensure that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy it as well.”

The anticipated cost to rebuild Haffner Trail is a little over $33,000. The improvements include resurfacing the trail with approximately 26,460 square feet of new asphalt overlay, a new tack coat, overlay fabric and spraying the weeds in the area. Neighborhood Council 5 has also been fundraising for the trail improvements and will help cover the difference in costs.

The City of Great Falls and the Park and Recreation Department would like to thank Janet Haffner-Lynn for her on-going support and generosity to our City parks. For more information about Russell Park or the Haffner Trail please contact Marty Basta at 771-0127.
