Support Services Bureau

Photo Captain Doug Mahlum

The Support Services Bureau is directed by Captain Doug Mahlum who was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2024 and assigned to lead the Bureau in 2024.  Captain Mahlum has previously served within the Patrol Services Bureau and the Investigative Services Bureau.  Captain Mahlum is a 22 year Veteran of the Great Falls Police Department. Captain Mahlum holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Minot State University, Minot, North Dakota.  He is also a graduate of the FBI's Intermountain Command College.   

When fully staffed the Support Services Bureau consists of 7-Full Time Civilian Employees, and 6- Sworn Officers. Bureau personnel consists of two Lieutenants, a Support Services Technician, the Volunteer Program, the Great Falls Housing Authority Officer, the Municipal Court Bailiff, the Process Server, Support Services Officers, and Animal Control Officers. 

While the Bureau handles many different tasks, it’s primary responsibilities include; Agency Trainings and Certifications, Public Information, Hiring/Recruiting, Promotional Testing, Policy Management, Fleet Vehicle and Equipment Management, Field Training Program, Employee Evaluations, Agency Drug Testing, Department Ceremony’s and Employee Recognition, Technology Utilization, Contract and Grant Management, and general support and management of equipment and facilities.
