City Boulevard Code & Enforcement Reminder
In an effort to preserve local boulevards, the City of Great Falls is reminding residents of the boulevard codes as defined in the Official Code of the City of Great Falls (OCCGF):
- OCCGF § 12.1.010 defines a "boulevard" as the area within any City street, avenue, or highway right-of-way, not occupied by street paving, curb and gutter, and sidewalks.
- OCCGF § 12.1.040 prohibits parking on boulevards except on lawfully constructed driveways or by boulevard encroachment permit.
- OCCGF § 17.44.2.010 states the design standards for boulevards surrounding single-family and two-family residences. The standards outline what is allowable in a residential boulevard and the prohibited materials and vegetation, including, but not limited to, gravel, decomposed granite, cobble, sand, etc.
Consequences for code violations include parking citations and/or a municipal infraction filed in Great Falls Municipal Court. Vehicles parked on a boulevard will be ticketed by the Great Falls Police Department. Property owners with a boulevard in violation of the design standards will be sent a notice of non-compliance from the City’s Public Works Department. If the boulevard is not remedied within a reasonable time from the date of the notice, the property owner will be issued a citation in Municipal Court.
