    Kristal Kuhn graduated from FEMA’s National Emergency Management Academy (Foundational Academy) at the Emergency Management Institute.  As a graduate she completed all of the Academy training courses that provided the basic knowledge and skills to help meet the unpredictable challenges in the field of emergency management. The City of Great Falls recognizes and commends Kristal on graduating from the Foundational Academy and completing this outstanding achievement.

    This week the City of Great Falls will once again host 37 Swedish DOCTUS Fire and Rescue Students. This is the DOCTUS School’s fourth visit to Great Falls Fire Rescue (GFFR). This relationship has flourished and according to the DOCTUS administrators, the City of Great Falls has been a good match and a great learning experience for their students. Additionally this has been an enriching experience for the local firefighters involved in providing training to these students. The students will be in Great Falls, April 28-May 2, 2013.

    Montana – Great Falls Fire Rescue is pleased to announce it has scheduled the  spring session of Fire Rescue Exchange (FRX). The next FRX will begin on Wednesday, May 15 and will run for eight weeks through June 3. Applications will be available beginning Monday, April 1.

    Great Falls Fire Rescue is pleased to announce the promotions of two new chief officers. Dirk Johnson has been promoted from his role as Deputy Assistant Chief of Training and Emergency Medical Services to the post of City Fire Marshal. Bob Shupe has been promoted from the role of Captain to serve as the new Battalion Chief and shift commander at Fire Station One. Both promotions are a result of retirements which occurred over the last few months.

    Looks like snow is on its way just in time for the Christmas Stroll! A winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 p.m Friday, December 7, through 5 p.m. Saturday, December 8, for elevations below 5,000 feet. Snow accumulations of around 2-5 inches can be expected for lower elevations. Please use caution and safety when driving.

    Great Falls Fire Rescue will remain on site tonight to manage an ongoing fire incident. Firefighters responded to a fire at 2 a.m. this morning. The fire, which eventually turned into a 3rd Alarm Call brought out approximately 35 fire personnel and resulted in the total loss of at least 4 busineses.

    The 2012 Care Enough to Wear Pink Campaign kicks off on Monday. For the next two weeks, fire fighters will be wearing Care Enough to Wear Pink shirts instead of their normal work uniform to provide an image of hope and encouragement to those who have had or are currently battling cancer. Care Enough to Wear Pink t-shirts will be available for purchase for $20 at various locations throughout Great Falls as a fundraiser for local charities.

    Great Falls experienced a severe high-wind weather event on Tuesday, August 14 beginning at 8 p.m. lasting until approximately 11:30 p.m. The damaging winds resulted in numerous downed power lines and trees and power outages throughout the community. Calls flooded into the 911 Center and the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated.

High School Proms are often full of excitement and special memories. However, the evening can end in disaster if the wrong choices are made. This event demonstrates the consequences of under-age drinking and driving.
