    Looking for something fun to do this summer? Registration for Great Falls Park and Recreation Summer Programs starts Monday, April 21. Registration for all Summer Camps will be at the Community Recreation Center (801 2nd Ave. N) from 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (6:30 a.m. on April 21 only). Registration for all other programs will be at the Park and Recreation Office (1700 River Drive N), 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.

    The 35th Annual Ice Breaker Road Race will be held Sunday, April 27, 2014. The five-mile road race offers a competitive format; and the three-mile run offers both a competitive and recreational format. Pacer the Penguin will be entered in the one-mile race and will be challenging kids of all ages.     Park and Recreation received a donation to purchase a pair of Black Swans and a pair of Mute Swans. Both pairs are yearlings and arrived in Great Falls last month. All waterfowl including the new swans will be released into Gibson Pond this Friday at 10:30am.

    Eagle Falls Golf Club and driving range opened on Friday, March 14. The gates and pro-shop open at 9:30 a.m. For tee times call Eagle Falls at 761-1078. The course will be open daily, weather permitting. Use of carts will be determined based on current conditions and will be evaluated on a daily basis.

    As part of the community’s annual holiday celebration, City staff removed a 40’ Blue Spruce on Friday, November 22, and placed it in front of the Civic Center.  Natural Resource staff will finish placing the lights on the tree this week and it will be lit at the Parade of Lights finale scheduled for Saturday, November 30,  at 6 p.m.  The tree will remain on display throughout the holiday season.

    Anaconda Hills will open for Winter Golf, November 15 – December 31; followed by Eagle Falls January 2 – February 15; contingent on weather conditions.  Hours will be 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and be locked at 3:30 p.m.  All golfers must be off the course before 3:30 p.m. There will be no charge to golf during Winter Golf.

    The Park and Recreation Department recently received a generous donation from the Haffner-Lynn family to rebuild the Haffner Trail in Russell Park. The mile long Haffner Trail was originally funded and built in 2001 with a donation from Janet Haffner in memory of her late husband R.K. “Bob” Haffner. The City of Great Falls and the Park and Recreation Department would like to thank Janet Haffner-Lynn for her on-going support and generosity to our City parks.

For those residing within the Boulevard District, the Natural Resources Division will vacuum leaves from the Boulevards.  The City Street Division will be sweeping streets in conjunction with the leaf pick-up.

    The Electric City Water Park is going to the dogs for the first ever “Drool in the Pool” event on Saturday, September 7, from 10 am – 1 pm.  The cost is $5 per canine and only one dog per person please. Take your favorite BBF  (best buddy forever) for a swim at the Mitchell Pool.
