    Park & Recreation is now  offering adult golf lessons.  Classes focus on individual attention, video error correction and touches on long and short game fundamentals for beginners, with specialized shots made available to the more advanced students.  Classes are offered Monday-Saturday (excluding Friday) for 5 classes, starting March 16th or March 23rd. Fee to register is $75.     Eagle Falls Golf Club is now open to the public for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  Hours are Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.   The road is not plowed so guests should plan accordingly.  The rules and the course map will be posted at the gate as well as an open/closed sign.  There is no charge to ski or snowshoe.

    It’s time to get your teams signed up for the 2015 City League Adult Basketball season.  Registration will begin on Monday, December 1, and continue through Monday, January 12, 2015.  Teams are registered on a first come/first served basis.  Team managers can register at the Park and Recreation office, 1700 River Drive North, 8 am- 5  pm. Men’s and Women’s leagues are offered.

    Each holiday season the Forestry Division provides the Christmas tree that is placed in front of the Civic Center. This year the 40-foot spruce tree will be moved to the Civic Center on Friday, November 21, between 8 am-12 p.m. In order to allow room for the flat bed trailer to move the tree all vehicles from 2nd Avenue North, starting at 38th Street to 9th Street, should be moved off the street on Friday morning. The Christmas tree will be lit for the first time on Saturday, November, 29 as part of the Parade of Lights.

    Due to the snow and cold temperatures the City of Great Falls Forestry Division will not be picking up leaves on Monday and Tuesday.  With the cold temperatures snow is not melting and it is impossible for homeowners to rake leaves. Leaf pick up was scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, however, in areas where the leaves have not been raked or picked up, residents are being asked to bag the leaves and put them out by garbage containers for pickup.

    The City of Great Falls is pleased to announce that Joseph Petrella will be joining the City as the new Park and Recreation Director. Joseph comes to Great Falls from Alexandria, Virginia, where he currently serves as the Division Chief for Recreation Services. Joseph has a broad background in recreation management with over sixteen years of experience. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science in Recreation Management from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) through the National Recreation and Park Association.

    Eagle Falls and Anaconda Hills Golf Courses will close for the season this week. The last day of play at both courses will be Friday, October 31, weather permitting.     The City's Leaf Pickup Program begins next week Monday, October 27 through Tuesday, November 18. Residents within the Boulevard District area are being requested to deposit leaves on the boulevard next to the curb and not in the street gutter. For those residing within the Boulevard District, the Natural Resources Division will vacuum leaves from the boulevards. The City's Street Division will be sweeping streets in conjunction with the leaf pick-up.

    Beginning on Tuesday, July 1, the Natatorium will undergo changes in hours of operation. During the month of July the Natatorium will only be open to those who participatr in swimming lessons or Aquatic Solution classes. The Natatorium will be closed during the month of August for general maintenance. Lap swimming is available at the Mitchell Pool during the summer, Monday through Thursday from 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

    The Electric City Water Park is open for the season! The Water Park will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Water Park includes the Mitchell Pool, the wading pool and interactive play structure (Little Squirts Soak Zone); the Power Tower Plunge (two great water slides); and the Flow Rider where participants can boogie board, ride the lazy river and head down the riptide slide.

    After serving the City for 35 years, Marty Basta has announced his retirement. Marty started his career with the City of Great Falls in 1979 and for the past six years has been the Park and Recreation Director. Marty’s last day of work will be Friday, May 16, which is also his 60th birthday. The City of Great Falls wishes Marty the best in his retirement and thanks him for his service.
