The City of Great Falls operates under the Commission-Manager form of government.

 

The City of Great Falls operates under the Commission-Manager form of government established by charter with self-governing powers.

 

The City Charter was adopted June 3, 1986, and became effective July 1, 1986.

 

The City's legislative and policy-making body is the City Commission. The City Commission employs the City Manager to direct the day to day operations of the City which carry out the policies of the City Commission.  The City Manager is helped in this task by his staff and directors of the departments.

 

City Commission Meetings

 

City Commission meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month. Commission Work Sessions begin at 5:30 and Commission meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission Chambers. Commission work sessions and meetings are live-streamed on the internet and aired live on the City's government access channel City-190, as well as re-aired the week of and the week following the meetings.
